... They have tried to change my place of residence, but the ties that unite us together are very strong.

By Juan Joy
(Mallorca)

Hello, I call myself Kyúdai Ani and I am a Majorcan olive. I am here to tell you a small part of my life, my last 10 years, which I have shared with my boyfriend and attendant Juan Joy. Certainly, have been ten very intense years of exhibitions, workshops, contests and long travels. Always with a same ending, to feel good.

We have been very lucky for meeting so many people in this bonsai world, from Japanese teachers to bonsai enthusiastic from all places in the world.  Several times, they have tried to change my place of residence, but the ties that join us together are very strong and it does not make sense to split us apart. I think that our destinies are meant to be together.
And now my small history:
In the spring of 1996, and after being part of a great olive during several hundreds of years, began my life as a bonsai in the garden of the previous house of Juan and Maria.
The adaptation to my change in the first year was very hard, but thanks to the good care, I recovered with a lot of strength. It is a shame not to have photos of ours first moments, although as you can imagine if you remove all the green stuff from it.

My appearance in society was in October of 2002 at the Museum of Bonsai of Alcobendas (Madrid). On the initial selection of the Contest Ginkgo Bonsai Awards, I got the second place.
The year 2003 was an intense one. On April 5th and 6th, we participate in the 1st International Contest of Bonsai Mistral Prize, winning the Prize for Better European Tree, and also meeting the great master: Masahiko Kimura.
On September 25th of this same year we undertook a long trip to Belgium to participate in the Ginkgo Bonsai Awards, on the 27th and 28th. It was a marvellous experience to be among the better bonsais of Europe and with so many charming people.
Two weeks after we came, back we started the 1st Monographic Olive Contest (Majorca). Juan and Angel were the organizers so I participated out of contest. Here meet the great master and affectionate person Kunio Kobayashi.

In this event, I felt protagonist of the disclosure of a species that has a lot to say in the world of bonsai. I took long holidays recovering from all this stress, until the end of 2005, finalizing the year winning an international prize in the "World Bonsai Photo Contest 2005".  This prize has allowed me to contact with people from the other side of the world, opening many doors to my specie.

My last prize until now has been in the IV International Congress of the Olive, winning the 1st place, by the hand of Master Shinji Suzuki.
I think that I am reaching the maturity as a bonsai and I do it by the hand of my friend Joan, as well as a good number of friends that like him sees in the olive tree a road to continue.

When I have
Sown my pain
In the country of the patience,
The fruit of the happiness
Has given Me
(Khalil Gibram)

I guess you wonder where my name comes from? I have got it after a special beloved friend, named Xim. It means: “Older Brother”, in Japanese.
